
During landing the left-hand wing broke at the wing root and was left behind. The turboprop plane rolled inverted and came to rest next to the runway. The wing left behind burst into flames and was extinguished by fire fighters.
The Dutch aerospace firm, Fokker, originally manufactured the Fokker-50 aircraft but stopped production in 1996. The firm’s successor company, Fokker Services, continues to service and repair those Fokker-50 planes that are still in use.
